This is Sean and Murphy’s Story…
Murphy is an energetic terrier who according to Sean “likes to think he’s the boss” but is really an absolute softy at heart. He’s a big character, leaving them howling with laughter after his cheeky antics. He’s taken lids off jars without getting his teeth marks in it. He can pick up a stick of butter without getting a tooth mark it in it.
Sean got Murphy when he was four months old and lives with his wife Moz, 7 year old daughter Matilda and their two Irish Terriers. Sean recalls seeing an Irish Terrier at the airport and knowing it was the dog for him. He got Murphy and didn’t tell his wife Moz so when she arrived home to a puppy she was very surprised!
When Murphy was around 10 months old he developed a cough that didn’t go away. They suspected something was not right and during a visit to the vets, x-ray’s revealed huge infections on his lungs and he was diagnosed with a serious congenital lung disorder and rushed into theatre that day. They got a call from the specialist saying it was touch-and-go and didn’t know whether Murphy was going to make it. “You are just sitting there wanting to scream and shout and want to be hands-on. To see such a vibrant dog going downhill so quickly, it’s very upsetting” says Sean.
Although the operation saved his life, he will always need ongoing care for related illnesses and wasn’t expected to live past 2 years old. They have almost lost him countless times but thankfully with the help of Murphy’s Covered For Life® insurance from Petplan they are able to access the continued veterinary care and medicine he needs to lead a healthy life.
Sean recalls, “when you’re in that situation, you want to do the best by your pet but obviously with that amount of medication and surgery you start worrying about the money. Having pet insurance with Petplan meant we were able to take some of that stress off our shoulders”. Petplan’s Covered For Life® insurance refreshes the Veterinary Fee benefit each year allowing customers like Sean to continue to claim for the same condition year after year providing there is no break in cover.
